Long nineteenth century but mostly Victorian; cats, books, alcoholism recovery, cats, cakes, art, work rants and did I say cats?

| goldenpolar: The other Mrs. Franklin - Sir John Franklin’s first wife, the poet Eleanor Porden. They married in 1823 after his return from his Coppermine River expedition, and their daughter Eleanor was born in 1824. The mother would die of tuberculosis in 1825 while he was on his second Canadian expedition. Franklin would marry Jane Griffin 1827, not wasting any time it seems. In 1822, Eleanor Porden wrote ‘Coeur de Lion, or the Third Crusade’, a poem about Richard the Lionheart. Though Lady Jane bonded with her niece through marriage, she didn’t really seem to hit it off with her stepdaughter. In fact, I’ve never really read what happened to Eleanor Franklin (the daughter) other than that she seems to have married a priest she met in Van Diemans Land.

not to be dramatic but i actually cannot describe how disappointed, upset, and angry i am.
You need a magnifying glass to make out that scar. I suppose true to the book Hester was always too much to hope for but this “effort” is simply insulting to the books, the character, fans of the books, viewers of the forthcoming film. What a load of bollocks.

socialistsquirrel: Your vote does matter In the 2010 general election:
10 million voted Tory
8.6 million voted Labour
6.8 million voted Liberal Democrat
15.9 million did not vote More people didn’t vote in the last general election than voted for any single party.
If all those people had voted we could have had a different government, they could have made a difference.
Please don’t make the mistake this election of thinking your vote won’t count, of thinking your vote won’t make a difference because it really really could especially in a situation where it is so close and so many seats are marginal.
Voter registration closes at 23.59 tomorrow, 22 May. All you need is your National Insurance number. Registration only takes a few minutes, please sign up and have your say. Link to register is www.gov.uk/register-to-vote
ladyaudleyssecrettumlbr: Kitten season is here so this is just a reminder to have your cats and kittens neutered so as not to add to the desperate problem of unwanted and stray felines. Those that don’t find homes live lives that are often short and miserable in the streets, or are put to sleep by shelters unable to cope with the huge intake. Not everyone is aware that kittens are sexually, if not fully, mature from a very early age indeed. A kitten of barely six months recently brought to the sanctuary where I volunteer, gave birth to a large litter this weekend. Three of the kittens died at birth and one a day later. The outlook for the remaining two is as yet uncertain. They are being fed by hand by sanctuary volunteers because their little mum, who really ought still to be enjoying kittenhood herself, is unable to produce milk. If the cost of neutering is problematic you may be able to get some assistance, so google low cost neutering services for your area.
The black kitten pictured above had a happy ending, being successfully rehomed some months ago. Many others are so much less fortunate.
ayeforscotland: The end of an 8-page form that women now have to sign to declare they’ve been raped. That’s right, women now need to declare the baby who was non-consensually conceived or face having their tax credits withdrawn. This was put into law without a parliamentary vote. This is Tory Britain.

Whatever your dream is, it is not too late to achieve it. You aren’t a failure because you haven’t found fame and fortune by the age of 21. Hell, it’s okay if you don’t even know what your dream is yet. Even if you’re flipping burgers, waiting tables or answering phones today, you never know where you’ll end up tomorrow.
Never tell yourself you’re too old to make it. Never tell yourself you missed your chance. Never tell yourself that you aren’t good enough. You can do it. Whatever it is.
This is so worth reblogging!
Thank you!
